Agricultural Projects & Training

For Haitians, water pumps are essential in the irrigation of crops. Two-thirds of the cost is paid back into the program over 2 years. The pumps are used cooperatively with 5 farmers who all become educated, trained, and encouraged to develop an economic plan for how the pump will affect their crops growth.

UCI also carries out a female goat giveaway, educating recipients on raising the animals and a simple economic program for investing. Pigs, Goats, and cows are given to a local family with the condition that the first litter be given back to UCI. UCI then gives the animals to other familes in the area. This program is experiencing tremendous success.

So far UCI has:

• 11 irrigation pumps in use.
• over 350 animals circulating through their tithing program
• given almost 52,000 reforestation and grafted fruit trees away, or sold them at a nominal price
• 80,000 coffee trees currently growing in tree nursery ready for distribution

Medical Training

At the university there is a science lab, computer lab, and the school has internet in the classrooms, a dissection lab, a clinic, and extension training to build up well-rounded, well-trained students.

For those that come to the clinic in Caiman, there is a benevolence fund for the ones that are not able to pay anything. This gives a lot of university students the opportunity to obtain training and experience to become better doctors, which in turn gives medical care for the whole community.

• $1600/yr: Medical Student (6 years)
